Umut Erel

Umut Erel is Professor of Sociology at the OU. Her research interests are in gender, migration, race and racism and citizenship. She is a module team member of DD218 Understanding Digital Societies and DD215 Social Research Methods. She is associate editor of the journal Citizenship Studies, deputy chair of the editorial board of the journal Sociology and a member of the Board of the Research Committee on Racism, Ethnicity, Nationality and Indigeneity of the International Sociological Association.

Ute Manecke has worked as a Learning and Teaching Librarian at the Open University since January 2018. Her role involves running training sessions for students and staff, library inductions, staffing the library’s helpdesk and supporting modules in production and presentation with skills development and resources.

In her free time, she enjoys walking, running, travelling, film, reading and writing.
