Ola was a mature student, who decided to return to full-time study in his late twenties. He has a B.Sc. in sport sciences and a PGCE in teacher training. He also has a range of vocational qualifications, such as A1 and V1 assessor awards and external verification.

He has vast experience of working within the sports and fitness industry within a range of roles, from fitness tutor, spin instructor, personal trainer to external reviewer. Furthermore, he has experience of mentoring, tutoring and coaching sports and education professionals.

He likes to cycle to work when it's not raining and loves tweeting at @dapofadoju. He loves that the OU gives anyone the chance to experience higher education.  A word for students: ‘sports tutors are some of the most supportive tutors you will meet and will assist you positively throughout your stay with us’.

portrait of Owain Smolovic-Jones

Owain joined The Open University in November 2013, having originally trained as a journalist, working at Media Wales for two years. He subsequently became a party press officer, and it was in his political life that he rediscovered his interest in study and enrolled on a part-time MBA at Cardiff University.

In 2008 he gained a studentship to pursue a PhD on leadership development in the public sector, following which he secured a Research Fellow position at the New Zealand Leadership Institute at the University of Auckland. He then spent two years in Auckland working on the practice side of leadership development, as well as pursuing teaching and research.

He is committed to excellence in teaching and so pursued and obtained a PGCert in Academic Practice while at the University of Auckland.

Owen is a 29-year-old OU law student currently studying W202: Contract and tort part-time. His career goal was originally that of criminal barrister, but he has been inspired by international and human rights law and constitutional law and is now refocusing on teaching, academia or becoming a solicitor. Along with his part-time studies and full-time job, he is an enthusiastic motorcyclist and chocolate Labrador keeper (aka Labrador butler!). He has been diagnosed with Asperger’s syndrome.
