  3. Public Legal Education: Social justice and Legal education

Presentation time: Wednesday, 3 May, 2017 - 21:50

What’s the connection between social justice and legal education? What role can OU law students play in providing public legal education? Should a law school be concerned with social justice?
Recent changes to legal aid have restricted the funding available for free legal advice and representation across the UK. Politicians, academics and judges recognise the need for better public understanding of legal issues. The Open University has a long tradition of developing educational opportunities for people from all parts of society, and now the OU Law School’s Open Justice project is committed to working with the wider community to improve levels of legal understanding.
Join the panel in this session to debate the role students and academics in the OU Law School can play in improving legal understanding beyond the university.
