WELS Showcase - Building on our resilience

Join us from 10am to 1:30pm

This exciting event brings together students and academics from the Faculty of Wellbeing, Education and Language Studies to explore the different forms of resilience we’ve developed alone, together, during a difficult year, looking ahead to a hopefully brighter future.  Throughout the sessions in the day, you’ll be encouraged to reflect on the highs and lows of the year and imagine what a better future could hold for study, work and life. You’ll hear and share stories of resilience and hope and join in discussions about the importance of standing up against all forms of discrimination and racism, especially during times of crisis.  As this is the time of the year for moving up and moving on, you’ll be invited to shake off the lows from this year in the dancing session for the day. In the last part of this event, you’ll hear about some of the work that has been going on during this year in the Children’s Research Centre, the School of Languages & Applied Linguistics and the School of Education, Childhood, Youth and Sport and join us in celebrating a year of making it through and making things happen, building on our resilience.

Different Perspectives: Exploring the big questions from different points of view

Join us from 10am to 11am

This past year has taught us many things, one of which is that in order to solve some of our big issues we need to look at them from a variety of viewpoints. We need to approach problems from different directions, through the lens of different subjects and discipline areas. How can we tackle key topics such as health and technology, food security and sustainability, the rise of online delivery and the impact on the environment, the importance now more than ever of the arts and their impact on wellbeing?

Join the Open Programme team at 10am on the 24 May as they tackle tricky topics in a fun and informal way and take part in a lively discussion and debate. We look forward to having the Student Hub Live audience share their thoughts and perspectives on these big questions.

During the live online event, we’ll introduce FBL before looking more closely at two modules (B100 and W101). We’ll also share advice on studying with us and provide an insight into apprenticeships. You’ll hear from a range of academics and students throughout five live sessions. In between these sessions we’ll broadcast short videos, created by tutors and students, offering tips and tricks for successful study. A dedicated social media desk will also be on call to answer your questions.  We hope you can join us online!
