Helen lives in Macclesfield, Cheshire, having moved there from Scotland 37 years ago when her husband was promoted in his job. She left school with 4 O levels, which was the qualification at the time in Scotland. Helen studied part-time and became a Pharmacy Technician in the NHS, where she worked for 15 years before relocating to England. She then spent 20 years working as a technician in the Pharmaceutical industry until her retirement.
Helen began studying with the Open University in 1994, starting with the course D103 Introduction to Social Sciences. She went on to earn a degree in Psychology and, after a break, pursued a Masters in Psychology. During her studies, she explored fascinating topics such as Discourse Analysis and Forensic Psychology. She is currently studying SK298, finding the topics on neurodiversity particularly interesting.
After a lifetime of feeling different, Helen was diagnosed with combined type ADHD two years ago. At the age of 65, she decided to seek a private diagnosis, which took just 4 months. It was followed by another year under the supervision of a psychiatrist before she was able to transition to shared care with her GP.
Helen’s main interests include her two grandchildren, Holly, 11, and Ieuan, 17, as well as her three dogs. She also enjoys gardening, hill walking, and painting.
