Access: Making a great start - 7th October 2021

This session will help you make a confident start to your Access module. We will explain how the module is organised, what to expect from your tutor and what assessment is all about. Access students nearing the end of their module will share their experiences and pass on lots of top tips and advice to help you. The module teams will also be on hand to answer questions. This session is designed to ensure you get your studies off to the best possible start and develop your confidence and understanding.

Anna Brooks

Anna Brooks joined The Open University in 2005 as an Educational Adviser. She is based in the Access and STEM Student Support Team where she works part-time as an Educational Adviser role providing support and guidance to students.

Carlton Wood

Carlton Wood is a tutor on the STEM Access module Y033 and has been associated with the Access programme since its inception over 20 years ago. He tutors a number of different presentations of the Y033 module including the one that starts in October.

George Curry

George Curry joined The Open University in 1996 as a secretary. An OU graduate, she has worked on the OU’s access provision since 2001 and is now the Head of Curriculum Management for Access in the Centre for Inclusion and Collaborative Partnerships.

John Butcher

Professor John Butcher is the Director, Access, Open and Cross-Curricular Innovation and is currently seconded to the PVC-Student office from the WELS faculty. He recently published a report for the Higher Education Policy Institute, entitled: ‘Unheard: the voices of part-time adult learners’.

Karen Foley

Karen Foley is a lecturer at The Open University and oversees Student Hub Live, The Open University’s live online interactive platform to facilitate academic community. Chair of Y032 People, Work and Society, Karen is involved in the Open and Access programmes.

Kirsten Jeffery

Kirsten joined the OU in 2018 and is currently Curriculum Manager for Y031. She is also an OU student.
