Presentation time: Monday, 10 June, 2019 - 15:20

The session will talk about why students may be interested in economics and what kinds of students may find economics useful. It will be particularly interesting to students considering taking an economics module at level 1 and particularly focuses on DD126, a new module which introduces economics and looks at how markets operate in theory and in practice. DD126 highlights how economic agents try to achieve their aims as both consumers, buying goods from companies, and workers, working for companies. The module also looks at important contexts such as labour markets, economic growth, international trade, the economic functions of government and the different types of economic systems that exist around the world. DD126 also considers why it is important to understand things which happened in the past in order to understand what is happening in the present, and what could happen in the future.
