Fundamental maths skills

This session will look at some basic data handling skills and how to apply them in your academic work.  What’s the difference between a percentage and a ratio and which one should you use to make your point?  How would you identify a mean, mode or median?  What’s the use of algebra?  What types of variables might you encounter in a problem?

We’ll also look at a recipe for laying out your mathematical problems in a logical way that will help you both understand the steps and also present them in a way that is easy for others to understand. This is an introductory session and will not get into the use of statistics.
