Mary Larkin

Mary is a Senior Lecturer in Health and Social care at The Open University. Her extensive teaching experience and her own personal experiences of caring led to her interest in carer research. She has led many research projects, undertaken consultancies and published widely. She is a member of professional, government and public bodies and consequently has extensive networks within the carers field. She is often invited to give presentations about her work.

Recently she has been committed to maximising the potential of the existing carer. To this end she co-founded (and edits for) the International Journal of Care and Caring and set up a Carer-related knowledge Exchange Network. This has significant implications in terms of improving the lives of carers across the world by utilising existing information more effectively. Through the Care and Caring network@OU which she set up, she is also focussing on support for students with caring responsibilities.
