Christine Mera

Christine joined the Open University in 2020 in the middle of the pandemic so this event is very relevant personally!  She has an MBA from the Open University, acquired while working in the corporate and public sectors prior to moving into Higher Education. She was originally awarded a Double Honours degree in Modern Languages from the University of Manchester and as a graduate worked in marketing for Grant Thornton accountants, moving onto Oxfam GB and public sector management roles. She holds a CIM Postgraduate Diploma in Marketing, a Diploma in Management from the OU, is a full member of the Chartered Institute of Marketing and has delivered consultancy to a range of SMEs, so she is very committed to turning academic theory into knowledge with practitioner application. She is currently completing her doctoral thesis in sustainable entrepreneurship. Christine moved into Higher Education over a decade ago, teaching CIM diploma modules, undergraduate and postgraduate degree modules in Business and Marketing and latterly managing postgraduate degree programmes. Christine continues to teach marketing and very much enjoys this engagement with students.

Born and raised in London, Christine moved to Manchester as a student and remained there for five years before moving to the East Midlands. She has close family connections in Ecuador and Colombia and (outside the pandemic!) enjoys family visits there and travel generally. Christine enjoys painting, country walks and growing food. She has been heavily involved in different levels of education since become a mother, chairing the local preschool committee, and being a primary school and then secondary school governor, while working in Higher Education for the past decade. Christine is committed to helping all students to achieve their best, while enjoying the experience! She looks forward to being part of Student Hub Live.
