Allan Mooney

Allan has knowledge and experience in all areas of HR and Organisational Learning and Development within Scottish Government, the Local Authority, Police and Health Service.  His areas of expertise include HR Development, ELearning, Competency Frameworks, Leadership and Management Development, IIP accreditation, SVQ Development and Managing Learning Teams.  Allan was also the Chair of the CIPD Organisational Development Group.

Allan has been an AL since 2010 and is currently tutoring on two leadership modules (B329 and B208); before he was an AL at the OU he was a part-time lecturer at the City of Glasgow College.  He studied his MBA and MSC in HRM at Caledonian University and shortly afterwards started lecturing part time on CIPD programmes for HR and Learning and Development.  Allan joined the OU earlier this year as a Student Experience Manager after being the Head of Learning and Development in Forestry and Land Scotland which is an agency of the Scottish Government.

Allan is a keen runner, anything from 5Ks to ultra-marathons and he is missing his weekly parkrun badly!  Interesting fact: Allan used to be an amateur and professional boxer and once fought for the British title in the Albert Hall – he lost though!  He still enjoys coaching at a local amateur boxing club.

Allan is married and his wife works in the NHS which meant that the bulk of home schooling was left to him – much to his son’s annoyance!  They live in a rural village in South Lanarkshire after moving from Glasgow 20 years ago where he and his wife were born.
