Whether you want advice on planning your next steps or someone to listen to your career ideas, the OU Careers and Employability Service is here support you, throughout your OU study journey and beyond. 

In this session, we’ll be showcasing one of our most popular online events this year, on the variety of careers that involve working with people. We’ll also show how you can consider a wider range of career options with your degree than the usual roles you might associate with your subject or discipline. 

We’ve developed lots of useful resources, such as webinars and forums, to enable you to explore, discuss and find out more information about a range of careers, professions and industry insights.  Our team have up-to-date industry knowledge and support students with a variety of additional needs and individual circumstances. From CV miss to CV hit, come along to this session where we will look at the basic components for creating a CV that will make an impact. CVs are a popular recruitment tool used by employers, so we will focus on key content to include and showcase exemplar CVs to help make CV writing easier. Join us to learn about the different tools, resources and support that are available from the careers team to help your CV go from the ‘no’ pile to the ‘yes’ pile!

This session will try to uncover some of the mystery behind assessment centres. Many employers carry out assessment centres as part of their recruitment process and it’s important to understand what’s involved and how to prepareThis session will therefore look at why employers do assessment centres and what they are. 

It will examine what activities are involved in a typical assessment centre and include top tips on how to prepare for them. 

The session will also examine how Careers and Employability Services at the OU can support you with this, and the resources available to you. If you want to succeed at assessment centres, then make sure you attend this session!

Come along to hear from Careers and Employability Services, the School of Computing and Communications and employers. We will discuss what digital skills are, why we all need them and how you could apply those you’ve gained from your study, work and life to help you move forward with your career.

In this session, Leigh Fowkes – Careers and Employability Consultant  and Ben Oakley  Professor in Sports Performance Education  will talk you through what to consider if you are thinking of a career in teaching, as well as recommending key resources along the way. Education is not just about becoming a teacher, so we’ll also cover some alternatives and resources that will help you generate new ideas and possibilities. We will also suggest ways you can start thinking about the skills and attributes you will need for your future career.

A brief introduction to the concepts of career planning and development and how OU students can use this framework to become career confident. This presentation will begin with a short animation explaining the four stages of career readiness’, followed by a showcase of several useful resources provided by OU Careers and Employability Services. This session is relevant to students at all stages of their career planning.
