Jessica Hughes

Jessica Hughes

Jessica Hughes is a senior lecturer in Classical Studies. She has been working at the Open University since 2008, but the OU has been part of her life since she was at primary school, when her mum did an OU degree in English Literature. She’s convinced that her own love of the Arts can be traced back to those early days of watching her mum study and hearing stories about Thomas Hardy and Emily Bronte.

Jessica did her first degree in Classics at Newnham College, Cambridge, where she was lucky to have Mary Beard as her Director of Studies! In the first year of her degree she discovered a passion for ancient art and archaeology, and she went on to study Greco-Roman art for her MA and PhD at the Courtauld Institute. She loves visiting sites and museums, especially those in the region of Campania in Southern Italy. Her other hobbies include making podcasts, travelling with her family, and playing the violin.
