Ian Wairua

Ian Wairua is a faculty member and doctoral fellow at Strathmore University, Nairobi, Kenya.

Ian is passionate about improving the learning experience for university students in Africa through the use of innovative and emerging learning technologies. He has extensive teaching experience working at both university and secondary school levels. He also worked for the Japanese diplomatic mission in Nairobi administering and running their education and communication programs. Ian currently teaches two undergraduate courses: Basic Japanese Language, and Trends in Digital Communication. He is actively involved in communication training for university academics through Strathmore University's Centre for Academic Development. He has also given training to university administrative staff, and to the parents of undergraduate students under the University Mentoring Services.

Ian has a Master's degree in Information Systems, MSIS (Strathmore University, 2012), a partial (ongoing) Master's degree in Educational Practice for Academics MEPA, and a Bachelor's degree in Education (Kenyatta University). He is the Vice-Chairman and founding Secretary-General of the Japanese Language Teachers Association – Kenya (JALTAK), and Board Member of Synonyms, an organisation for language and communications.
