TURTLE CHALLENGE

poster image: turtle challenge

This is an interactive session.

We’ll be discussing how we use the Python programming language in TM112 Introduction to Computing and IT 2 for learning to problem solve: from starting with a problem in English, decomposing it into simpler parts, finding the right algorithms and implementing these.

We’ll also be looking at how we begin teaching Python, using visual feedback.

LABCAST

Labcasts allow us to broadcast practical science and technology sessions from the OU’s lab facilities to students at home. We can demonstrate large / expensive / dangerous equipment that you might not otherwise get a chance to see. The labcasts are live and interactive, so you have a chance to join in with planning and carrying out these practical investigations.

Computing and IT is a very practical subject and, while students can do many things on their own computers, labcasts give us a way of demonstrating bits of hardware they may not otherwise get a chance to see. These can range from our large humanoid robot to the small Raspberry Pi computers we will be using today.
